CARMICHAEL, Sacramento County — Residents who regularly use Cardinal Oaks Park should check its status before visiting: the Carmichael Recreation and Park District’s project page continues to describe the park as closed while Measure G-funded improvements are being completed.

What is being rebuilt?

The official Cardinal Oaks project page lists replacement of the playground structure and surface, accessible pathways and ramps, a drinking fountain, added pedestrian lighting and a parking lot on the south side of the park.

The district says work started in May 2026. September updates described installation of playground equipment and concrete walkways, with rubberized surfacing and lighting elements still in progress. New light poles were expected to arrive in late October.

When can families return?

The district’s latest displayed project description estimates completion in late fall 2026. It warns: “No park access until the project finishes.” An earlier target near the end of October should not be mistaken for a confirmed reopening as of October 31.

Parents should not bring children past fencing or into a work zone, even when some equipment appears installed. Newly poured surfaces or equipment waiting for inspection may not be ready for public use.

How to confirm reopening

For status changes, use the district’s updates page or contact the recreation office at 916-562-4783. A ribbon-cutting date or access announcement should come from the district, not from guesses based on construction progress.
